Union Food Processing Industry Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said Wednesday that the in-principle approval given to a mega food park in Amethi was cancelled on merit after the promoters failed to acquire the requisite land in the name of the Special Purpose Vehicle in 45 months, even though there was a precondition of a six-month deadline.
Reacting to a letter written by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on the issue to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Harsimrat said lies were being spread to deflect the fact that there was no land in the name of the promoter company.
Now, she asserted, Rahul was trying to project the cancellation of the in-principle approval given to Shaktiman mega food park at Jagdishpur, Amethi, as discrimination against Amethi whereas facts of the case were different.
“If the food park has been cancelled, it is because of the inability of the promoters to fulfill the basic conditions despite nine extensions in three-and-a-half years,” she said, adding that the promoters had admitted that they had failed to acquire the land even as on June 26, 2014 – a 45-month period – whereas such formalities should have been completed in six months.
The minister said that it was unfortunate that politics was being played on this issue. “I wish the Congress vice-president had worked for the last four years to ensure that the mega food park started work”.
