Former IAS officer Sanjay Gupta was arrested by the CID (Crime) on Thursday in connection with the alleged irregularities of Rs 113 crore in the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro rail project. Gupta was executive chairman of Metro-link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) Company Ltd, which is executing the project.
The CID also arrested former senior manager of MEGA Radesh Bhatt. DG, CID, Pramod Kumar said, “We have arrested Sanjay Gupta for his role in the fraud in Metro-link project. The Metro-link officials had registered a complaint with us on the fraud committed by Gupta and his aides.” The two have been booked for criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy.
As per the complaint registered with the CID in April this year, Gupta had allegedly committed fraud to the tune of Rs 113 crore in procurement and use of filling materials in the project.
DSP S G Parmar said, “Gupta used to order for filling materials worth several crore and seek the sum for the same from the government. However, when the papers were checked hardly any material was delivered or used for the project. We recorded statements of several officials working under the project then and now to check and the documents showed that he committed fraud of Rs 113 crore as the complainant mentioned.”
