Claiming that the Abohar Municipal Council has sold public property,worth Rs 80 crore,to ‘high-profile’ people at the behest of influential Punjab politicians,four residents of the town moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday demanding a CBI probe into the alleged scam.
Since an appeal,filed by the Municipal Council,is pending in court,a division bench headed by Chief Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri tagged the PIL,filed on Tuesday,with the pending appeal on Wednesday. They will come up for hearing on April 23.
The petitioners have levelled serious accusations against government functionaries. “Paramjit Singh alias Lali Badal,cousin of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,used his power to influence revenue officials and thus manipulated the record and purchased the land,which was reserved for the setting up additional storage and sedimentation tank,” the PIL reads.
The petitioners have further alleged that the land,measuring 9.25 acres,was first acquired by the PWD in 1960. They claimed that from 1996,officials of the concerned department began forging revenue entries and as a result,plots began to appear instead of the water storage and sedimentation tank.
