The Aam Aadmi Party leadership has issued a showcause notice to Dr Daljit Singh, chairman of the disciplinary committee of Punjab’s AAP unit, who recently spoke against the party’s state convenor Sucha Singh Chottepur and its Punjab affairs incharge Sanjay Singh.
The notice issued by AAP’s national disciplinary committee reads, “It has come to our notice that you have been deliberately indulging in anti-party activities. Your activities, utterances and conduct has caused damage to the party’s image and is proving inimical to party organisation. You have also attempted to bring disrepute to the senior party leadership by making false and malicious allegations and defamatory statements. In addition, you have been disobeying party directions and working against party directives.”
Dr Daljit, a reputed opthalmologist who unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha election from Amritsar on an AAP ticket, was asked to explain his position by 5 pm on Monday.
Sources in the party said Singh has stated in his reply that he stood by whatever he said against the leaders. He was likely to be expelled from the party, they added.
The notice was issued after Dr Daljit Singh had stated that AAP state convenor Sucha Singh Chottepur would not take the party anywhere and added that the party affairs incharge Sanjay Singh was in cahoots with him.
When contacted, Sanjay Singh said Dr Daljit has been issued the notice as the party would not tolerate any kind of indiscipline. He said he did not know if others indulging in similar activities would also face action.
Chottepur said he did not know anything about the matter as he was away.
