The Patiala police on Monday arrested nine members of a gang for being allegedly involved in murder,dacoity and loot cases. The gang is wanted in at least 20 similar cases registered in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
The arrested included the three unidentified persons who had allegedly snatched a .9mm pistol from Head Constable Narinder Sing,after throwing red chilli powder into his eyes in Ludhiana on Friday.

Hardayal Singh Mann said several weapons and ammunition have been recovered from the gang members,who were planning a big robbery in Punjab.
The police had stopped two cars a Swift and a Optra Magnum at a naka in Rajpura on Sirhind road. Over a dozen people were travelling in the two vehicles. When the vehicles were stopped,occupants of one of the cars opened fire at the policemen. The occupants of the other car grabbed a policemen and tried to snatch his service weapon, Mann said.
Following this,the police managed to arrest Jaswinder Singh alias Zed alias Honey a resident of Rajori Garden in New Delhi from the spot with a .9mm pistol and two rounds of ammunition,he added.
The other occupants of one of the cars managed to flee by leaving the car behind. The occupants of the other car drove away. A major manhunt was launched by the police to catch the other members… The police took the help of the residents of Ugaani village,near where the accused had fled. We caught another accused,Amritpal Singh a resident of Balachaur along with a .32 bore revolver and two rounds of ammunition, said Mann.
After questioning the two accused,the police arrested Davinder Singh alias Baba (Ropar),Sukhbir Singh (Kurali),Lakhvinder Singh alias Lucky (Noorpurbedi),Pankaj Kumar and Mohammad Afzal (Hajatpur) from a hotel at Una in Himachal Pradesh. Other accomplices Harjit Singh (New Delhi) and Rampal Chaudhry (Himchal Pradesh) were arrested from a house at Phase VII in Mohali.
This house in Phase VII was the gangs headquarters. A .12 bore pistol,a .32 bore revolver and a .455 bore pistol along with 6 rounds of ammunition have been recovered from the rest of the gang members… All are between 22 to 27 years of age, Mann said,adding that the gang was headed by Devinder Singh alias Baba and Tejinder Singh alias Teja.
The gang was involved in several cases of murder,dacoity and other criminal activities in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. It was planning to loot a money exchange vehicle on the national highway on the intervening night of June 23 and 24, said the SSP.
The police are now looking for kingpin Teja,Deepi (Morinda),Mandeep Singh alias Mani (Jassowal) and Aman Bains (Mohali),who were with Baba in the car when the incident took place. While Teja is wanted in 16 cases,Baba has four FIRs registered against him.
