Seven persons, including two women, died and nine others were injured, few of them seriously, when a private bus skidded off the road and rolled down 600 meters into a gorge near Chail village, near Haripur Dhar on Haripur Dhar-Solan road, 110 KM from Shimla on Sunday morning.
Superintendent of Police Sirmaur Balbir Thakur said, “All seven persons, including three women, died on the spot while other injured persons were rescued from the site and shifted to different places in serious condition.”
The ill-fated bus was on its way from Ratwa village in Sirmour to Baddi in Solan, and was carrying about 15 to 17 passengers.
Siramur’s Deputy Commissioner Ritesh Chauhan told The Indian Express over phone that it’s not yet clear as to how the bus suddenly rolled down into the deep gorge. “The police have also registered a case and an inquiry will be done.” Eye witnesses say the driver might have failed to navigate a sharp bend and lost control of the bus.
All the passengers of the bus including driver and conductor were residents of local villages in Haripur Dhar area.
Rescue teams were rushed to the spot immediately, but it took quiet sometime for them to reach the accident site.
Four injured persons were admitted to a hospital at Rajgarh and one in Haripur Dhar, while the five critically injured persons have been referred to Zonal hospital at Solan. The deceased, including driver Kapil, have been identified as Dharam Pal, Sant Ram, Anjana, Lakshmi, Man Singh, Jagdish and Yashpal.
Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, who reached Shimla this afternoon, expressed shock over the tragedy and directed the local administration to provide relief to next of the kin and other medical care to the injured .
