6 arrested for trying to sell tiger,leopard trophies

Forest department officials have arrested six persons in connection with unauthorised “transport and sell” certified tiger and leopard trophies.

Forest department officials have arrested six persons in connection with unauthorised “transport and sell” certified tiger and leopard trophies. In a swoop at a city hotel Tuesday evening,a team led by Divisional Forest Officer P K Mahajan arrested Abdul Khalif from Amravati district along with five others. “We had sent a decoy customer upon information that Khalif was planning to sell the trophies he owned,and trapped him and the accomplices,” Mahajan said.

The trophies comprised tiger skin,nails,teeth and two leopard skins. They were certified by Chief Wildlife Warden in 2006.
