Three Army personnel were arrested for allegedly trying to molest a 25-year-old woman in the New Delhi-Sikkim Mahananda Express Monday night between Barauni and Khagaria railway stations. The three jawans, who are from Gorkha Regiment, are posted in Jammu and Kashmir. They were going to New Jalpaiguri.
The personnel were identified as Deepchandra Roy, Pradeep Thapa and H K Gurung. The complainant, who is from Darjeeling, was returning home from New Delhi where she does part-time job.
Barauni railways DSP Lal Babu Yadav said the three Army men were arrested by the Government Railway Police Khagaria when the train reached Khagaria station around midnight. The complainant told the police after she boarded the AC compartment of the train, the three jawans, who were also travelling in the same compartment, started passing lewd remarks and later one of them tried to molest her between Barauni and Khagaria railway stations. The DSP said when other fellow passengers tried to protest, they took out their khukhri or knives. The police seized their knives.
