Mizoram Police on Friday arrested a 20-year-old man for what a senior officer said appears to be an unintended murder of the 34-year-old deputy bank manager who disappeared on New Year’s Eve from his Aizawl residence.

Lalropuia Sailo, identified as an Aizawl resident, has been charged with the murder of Lalnunmawia Zadeng. who was home for the Christmas and New Year holidays from his job as deputy manager of the HDFC’s Lawngtlai branch in southern Mizoram.

A police source directly involved with the investigation and arrest said Sailo and Zadeng were involved in a brawl on New Year’s Eve after an argument and Sailo may have killed the 34-year-old during the scuffle.

Zadeng, a bachelor, had disappeared on the night of December 31. His family had received a text message from them saying he would be staying over with friends for the night. He remained untraceable thereafter.  A massive search operation was launched to find him but his bloated corpse was found in the outskirts of Aizawl on Thursday afternoon.
