At least 14 persons were killed Sunday in two separate road accidents in Assam. The first incident took place around 4 am when a vehicle bringing devotees from a religious congregation rammed into a stationary truck loaded with steel rods near Kaziranga National Park. Confirming the incident, police said the vehicle, carrying 16 people, was returning from the Sankar Sangha annual conference at Dhakuakhana in Lakhimpur district when it hit the truck on NH-715. As many as 12 people died on the spot.
In another accident, a couple were killed when a car fell into a pond near Basugaon in Kokrajhar district. Police recovered their bodies after lifting the car from the pond.
