The Pune rural police on Monday arrested 12 persons suspected to be Bangladesh nationals who had been fishing in the waters of Ujani dam in Indapur for the last few months.
Acting on a tip-off,teams of the special branch of Pune rural police and Indapur police station arrested the suspects. The action was led by Inspector Ashok Pawar of the Indapur police and Assistant Inspector Narayan Sarangkar of the special branch. Police have reportedly seized some documents,including voter I-cards. It is being probed whether these documents are genuine or forged.
Those arrested are Akash Bishwas (29),Tutul Bishwas (26),Gautam Viraman (33),Gavrang Viraman (39),Jaideep Bishwas (47),Pratap Bishwas (41),Laltu Bishwas (22),Shrikrishna Bishwas (36),Paresh Bishwas (29),Sujay Potdar (24),Asim Bishwas (24) and Mita Bishwas (22). An eight-year-old girl,daughter of Mita,has been detained.
Sub-Inspector A A Deshmukh of Indapur police station,who is the investigating officer of the case,said: We have recovered voter I-cards from two suspects Akash and Tutul Bishwas. They claim to have obtained the cards from Akluj by including their names in the voting list. Others have voter I-cards issued from West Bengal. Our teams would be going to Akluj and also to West Bengal to probe whether the I-cards are genuine or fake. We have booked the suspects under Sections of the Foreigners Act and Sections 465,471 and 473 of the IPC.
