Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray took a dig at Manmohan Singh on Monday, saying how could a Prime Minister who “failed” to convince former ally Mamata Banerjee on FDI in retail try to convince the people of the country.

He said in an editorial in party mouthpiece Saamana that PM’s address to the nation on September 21 was “most laughable” and that he “shamelessly” defended FDI in retail and rise in diesel price.

There may not have been a more laughable speech in India’s history,he added.

FDI in multi-brand retail had angered the trading community and the increase in diesel price had adversely affected the common man,Thackeray said.

On PM’s remark that “money does not grow on trees”,the Sena chief said,“Does money come from coal mines,or fodder (scam) or Bofors (scam)?”

“PM says there is no money, then why are largesses heaped on Muslims,” Thackeray asked.
