State mulls more wages,powers to panchayat,zilla parishad heads

The state government is considering a proposal to hike the Rs 5,000 a month honorarium given to zilla parishad presidents,panchayat samiti chairpersons and heads of various committees of the two local self-government bodies.

The state government is considering a proposal to hike the Rs 5,000 a month honorarium given to zilla parishad presidents,panchayat samiti chairpersons and heads of various committees of the two local self-government bodies. “A decision will be taken in a day or two,” rural development minister Jayant Patil said.

There is also a proposal to give more administrative powers to panchayat samiti chairpersons and heads of zilla parishad various committees .“They have to approach the zilla parishad president even to take disciplinary action and this causes delay,” Patil said,adding that powers would be delegated to expedite rural governance.

Meanwhile,the minister admitted there are several vacancies in Vidarbha and Marathwada.
