IM suspect Mohammed Qateel Siddiqui’s family on Friday sought a narco-analysis test on Sharad Mohol and Alok Bhalerao, accused of murdering Siddiqui in Yerawada jail on June 8.

Siddiqui’s cousin Mohammed Afroz made the demand in a submission to the sub-divisional magistrate probing the murder. This comes two days after the chargesheet was filed in the murder case.

Sub-divisional magistrate Ravindra Kulkarni confirmed that a written submission was made to him by Afroz. Yerawada police had arrested Mohol (28) and Bhalerao (22)- criminals on police record- on June 12 for allegedly strangling Qateel to death in the Anda Cell area of the prison on June 8. Police had said post-mortem reports confirmed strangulation.

Afroz demanded a fresh probe saying that ever since Siddiqui’s arrest in Delhi, the family had the suspicion that many facts in the case were not being brought out.

In his submission,Afroz,on behalf of the family, demanded a probe by an agency like the CBI and a narco-analysis test on the accused.

“The family suspects many facts about Qateel’s death and his earlier arrest are not being brought out. Nothing in the story of these two persons (accused) sounds true,” he said.

“Qateel was picked up from Delhi last year when he was taking his pregnant wife to a doctor. She was told he will return soon. But that never happened. He was taken to Bangalore and later to Pune and was to be transferred back to Delhi on June 4,but was there till June 8 when he was murdered. This is suspicious.”

“They said my cousin was a terrorist and was involved in a fake currency racket. We want to ask, why is his family poor if he was dealing in fake currency? They say he threw a bomb into the sea after he could not plant it at a temple in Pune. He had never come to Pune, and why would a person go to Mumbai to dispose of the bomb,as if there was no river or nullah in Pune. We want an investigation by an independent body,” said Afroz.
