The court of Additional Session Judge in Amritsar,Neelam Arora,on Monday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Sarbdyal Singh,former personal secretary of former cabinet minister Gulzar Singh Ranike,in connection with the case of embezzlement of rural development funds. The case was registered in June,where Sarbdyal and others have been accused of siphoning off Rs 1.15 crore by opening bank accounts in the name of fake beneficiaries and pocketing the money.
Two girls killed in Shimla accident
Shimla: Two 12-year-old girls,both students of Shimlas leading school Convent of Jesus and Mary,died after allegedly being hit by a speeding car between Sanjauli and Nav-vahar chowk on Monday. The girls were returning from school when they were run over by the vehicle. Police said efforts are on to nab the culprit,who had fled from the site without helping the victims. The girls have been identified as Nancy Thakur and Sakshi.
Samjhauta engine catches fire in Pak
Amritsar: The engine of India-bound Samjhauta Express caught fire in Pakistan on Monday. The train resumed its journey from Pakistan to Attari after the engine was replaced and reached Attari at 2.40 pm,more than two hours behind schedule. Pakistani officials said the locomotive burst into flames near Mughalpura station and the engine was replaced with one from Lahore. Attari Station Superintendent Shashi Kant Madaan said that fire was likely caused due to a short circuit in the 12-motor engine.
HPTDC staff to get 8.33% bonus
Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC),in a meeting of its board of directors on Monday,announced to release 8.33 percent bonus for the financial year 2011-12 for 676 employees of the HPTDC. The decision will benefit employees to the tune of Rs 13 lakh. It was also decided that one additional increment will be released to Class IV employees who have completed 20 years of service at one place like in the the state government,besides granting approval to create six posts of Accounts Clerks on contract basis.
