Robbers open fire,decamp with Rs 41 lakh after injuring one

Three robbers allegedly shot at two people carrying money and decamped with Rs 41 lakh in broad daylight at Karmuwali Gali inside Katra Jaimal Singh in Amritsar on Monday.

Three robbers allegedly shot at two people carrying money and decamped with Rs 41 lakh in broad daylight at Karmuwali Gali inside Katra Jaimal Singh in Amritsar on Monday. Rajan Sharma,who was carrying the money,was shot in the shoulder and upper leg,but is out of danger.

Police have registered a case on the complaint of Prem Khanna,who was accompanying Rajan. Amritsar Commissioner of Police Ram Singh said the victim worked for a trader,who acted as an intermediary between people seeking monetary transactions.

Rajan and Prem were carrying Rs 41 lakh to a bank on foot when the alleged robbers confronted them and decamped with the money. The incident sent shockwaves in the area.

The Amritsar police commissioner,known for his strictness towards maintaining law and order,transferred the Kotwali Station House Officer Dailbag Singh to police lines.

“In the meetings,I had been repeatedly telling him to get his act together,but he failed to do so and today this incident happened. I have order his transfer to Police Lines and new SHO would take over the Kotwali Police Station by evening,” the Commissioner said.
