Punjab’s chief engineer (PWD) has objected to Himachal Pradesh collecting entry tax from vehicles entering the state. In a letter to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, the chief engineer states that Himachal’s collecting of entry tax is not genuine as “all states are part of India”. He has also suggested that Badal take up the matter with his counterpart in Himachal. “Previously the entry tax was being collected near Parwanoo on Chandigarh-Shimla road which has now been shifted on the newly constructed Kalka-Parwanoo bypass near Timber Trail. Now every vehicle going to Himachal has to pay tax at two places within a distance of about 16 kms,” reads the letter.

Border towns in Punab too have objected to the collection of this tax.
