Four days after her father had approached the police to report that she had been kidnapped from her school, the Khar police on Monday finally registered a case and initiated a probe to trace 7-year-old Saniya Shaikh. The kidnapping case was eventually filed after a departmental inquiry was launched against an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and other officers for inaction and negligence.

Saniya was reportedly kidnapped on July 19 from her school by a burkha-clad person. Her father Naushad Shaikh attempted to lodge a complaint several times at Khar police station, but was refused for various reasons.
