HC asks Punjab why no head,members in womens’ body

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday asked the Punjab government to explain why it had till now not appointed a chairperson and other members for the Punjab State Women Commission.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday asked the Punjab government to explain why it had till now not appointed a chairperson and other members for the Punjab State Women Commission. The query was put forth during the hearing of a PIL filed by ‘HELP’,a Nawashahar NGO.

The petitioner stated that there was one post of chairperson,and five posts of non-official members in the body,but the post of chairperson had been vacant since December 30,2011. Four non-official members also retired during the intervening period.

As per the petitioner,there was only one non-official member,Parveen Sharma,who was working and had not been given his salary since May.
