Haryana has urged Centre to sanction additional power to the sate to meet its burgeoning needs.
“For peaking load,power is needed which can come from either hydro- or gas-run power plants. Thus,to satisfy the peak requirement of states like Haryana,the Union Ministry of Power needs to come up with a plan to provide for additional required power during peaking hours,” state Power Minister Capt Ajay Singh Yadav said.
Speaking at the power ministers’ conference organised by Planning Commission in New Delhi on Monday,Yadav said,“Haryana needs additional power to meet the demands of farming sector,which was facing difficulties owing to insufficient rain this year”.
Talking about the insufficient quantity of coal allocated to its power plants,Yadav said the the newly commissioned 1,200 MW thermal plant at Hisar was making do with two rakes per day instead of the required five rakes.
He also said that the poor quality of coal being received at the power stations was a matter of serious concern. “The coal reaching power stations has lower calorific value and high ash content. Also,8-9 per cent coal is lost in transit. This leads to increase in generation cost,” Yadav said he also highlighted the problems faced by the power plants in getting the equipment – mostly made in China – repaired. He said that at present,power plants with installed generation capacity of around 20,000 MW in Haryana have equipment of Chinese make. Stating that these machines can;’t be repaired in India,he said that a machine was sent to China for repair. He urged the Centre to take steps to build capacity for the repair of such machinery in the country itself.
