The Haryana power utilities,on Wednesday, sought to clarify that the collapse of the grid on July 30 and 31 was on account of power overdrawn by constituent states and added that the reason for the collapse of the grid does not lie with them. Haryana,UP,and Punjab had been blamed for the collapse.
A power utilities spokesman said reports of Haryana overdrawing to the extent of 51 per cent were not true. He said that the frequency at 2.32 am on July 30 was 49.8 Hz and between 49.92 to 50.27 Hz from 12 noon to 1 pm on July 31,which shows generation and demand did not pose any threat to the grid.
The spokesman added: When the grid collapsed, the total load of all the northern region states was about 31,726 MW. Northern states were overdrawing around 1,573 MW,which comes to about 4.8 per cent. This is perfectly within limits. If the states had been overdrawing excessively, the frequency profile would have been much worse.
He said that the Northern Regional Load Dispatch Centre (NRLDC) conveys violation messages in the category of A,B and C to states when they overdraw and pose a threat to the grid. But no such messages were relayed to Haryana State Load Dispatch Centre on July 31, said the spokesman.
