Akal Takht chief Giani Gurbachan Singh said on Sunday that the alleged demolition of a gurdwara at Waraich by Radha Soami Dera Beas was “in no way a case of sacrilege to Guru Granth Sahib”.

While warning against “some miscreants who were out to disturb peace” and some “politicians who were taking political mileage out of the issue”,he told mediapersons: “I warn such people and order that they should not politicise and create controversy on the name of Guru Granth and Guru Panth. Gurdwara is not a building, but a place related to Parkash of Guru Granth Sahib where Sikh devotees pay obeisance daily as per Sikh Rehat maryada.”

“The three-member SGPC panel that probed the matter has submitted its report and in no way, this case is of sacrilege to Guru Granth Sahib. It is clear from the report that there are no houses of Sikhs near the gurdwara nor there was anyone to perform the service,” Singh said, adding that under such circumstances, the location of the gurdwara was changed.

He said the building that housed the gurdwara had been sold and the money will be used for construction work at Shaheedi Bag in Anandpur Sahib.
