CHANDIGARH: Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday announced that Punjab is set to become first state in the country to start online registration of property and land with the completion of a pilot project in SAS Nagar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar districts. Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia said Mohali will be the first district where the project will be implemented by October. By 2013,the project should cater to all districts,said Sukhbir.
Probe ordered into nurse death
JALANDHAR: The body of a nurse at military hospital (MH) in Jalandhar,who was found dead on Wednesday,was handed over to her family on Thursday. A court of inquiry was also set up to probe the death of Captain Melody Lalengmawii (28) from Mizoram. She had bled from the mouth. The cause of death can be ascertained only after we receive the postmortem report, said Jalandhar Cantt ACP Manpreet Singh.

Panel gives nod to Rs 276-cr mega project
CHANDIGARH: The empowered committee on mega projects on Thursday approved Rs 276-crore Terry Towel Manufacturing Mega Project to be set up by M/s SEL Textiles Limited in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshehar) district. The project,to be set up over 125 acre,will generate 1,100 direct and 5,500 indirect employment.
NIA gets more time to file chargesheet
CHANDIGARH: A special Panchkula NIA court on Thursday gave the NIA 90 more days to file supplementary chargesheet against Kamal Chauhan alleged bomber in the 2007 Samjhauta blast case. Unable to file the supplementary chargesheet against Chauhan within the original deadline of 90 days,the NIA had moved court seeking an extension of the deadline. Now,the NIA can file the chargesheet by August 12.
Nuke plant walls to be made of steel
CHANDIGARH: Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited Chief Project Engineer T R Arora said on Thursday that for the first time,the walls of the nuclear power plant to be set up at Gorakhpur will be made of steel,along with cement concrete. Scientists and specialists will answer the queries of the people to clear doubts and misconceptions about the plant to be set up in Fatehabad district at an open forum at Gorakhpur on July 17,he added.
Haj committee fixes foreign exchange rate
CHANDIGARH: The Haj Committee of India has fixed the foreign exchange rate of one Saudi Riyal equivalent of Indian Rs 15.2346 for Haj-1433-2012. Stating this,Aftab Ahmed Chairman of the Haryana State Haj Committee said that pilgrims are being advised to deposit the balance amount of foreign exchange in accordance with the accommodation category opted by them and their foreign exchange entitlement after deducting the amount of Rs 51,000 already paid towards advance foreign exchange. A pilgrim will have to pay Rs 1,64,905 for green category accommodation and Rs 1,36,264 for Aziziya category of accommodation,he added.
