Health ministers and officials from BJP-ruled states will attend a workshop at SEARCH (Society for Education,Action and Research in Community Health),an NGO run by activist Abhay Bang,in Gadchiroli on Monday to understand a model of bringing down child deaths.
BJP spokesperson Prakash Jawdekar told the media here on Sunday the concluding session of the workshop would be addressed by party president Nitin Gadkari.
Abhay and Rani Bang have done path-breaking work in Gadchiroli and have brought down child death rate. The BJP good governance cell thought of taking the experiment to party-ruled states and the workshop is culmination of that thought process, he said.
The ministers and officials will also tour a few villages where the SEARCH model of barefoot doctors has worked wonders, he added.
Claiming that the erstwhile Sena-BJP government in Maharashtra was the first to take steps to check malnutrition in areas such as Melghat,Jawdekar said,Not many believe a political party can do such things. BJP is the only party to have a good governance cell.
The Centre has already adopted the model and is implementing it through ASHA (accredited social health activists).
Jawdekar, however, said,ASHA is just one module in the programme. Controlling malnutrition involves a lot of other things such as nutritious food for pregnant women during the entire pregnancy period and addressing related socio-economic issues. We will work on all aspects.
