As evaluators pay the price,students at MDU benefit

While evaluators,who were part of the marking scandal at the Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) in Rohtak,have been penalised,students,whose marksheets were checked by the ‘indicted evaluators and re-evaluators’,seem to have benefited from the entire episode.

Despite stark differences between the first result and the final re-evaluation marks,students will now receive an average score. University authorities,citing prevalent rules,say that once the result of any student gets affected by 30 per cent or more,he gets an average score calculated by all the three marks,awarded by the first examiner,second and third re-evaluator.

MDU has also reduced the punishment for some debarred evaluators. After considering representations given by some,the authorities have reduced their punishment by a year each. MDU Vice-Chancellor Dr R P Hooda said: “We have relaxed the penalty of all debarred evaluators and re-evaluators,by one year,each. As far as the students’ issue is concerned,as per rules,an average of the three markings is calculated and that is the final score.”
