The Samajwadi Party family fight reached a hilt on Monday with all rifts of the party coming out in open. Acrimonious scenes were witnessed as the party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav exchanged heated words, with Mulayam making clear his support for Amar Singh, describing him as his “brother” and Shivpal Yadav as “mass leader”. However, exchange of words wasn’t the only hostile scene during the meeting. While speaking to the party workers, Akhilesh Yadav mentioned Amar Singh and his views of him. In the middle of the speech, Shivpal Yadav snatched the mic from him and announced that the Chief Minister was lying.

In a video released by NDTV, the chief minister is seen speaking to the public, telling them that Amar Singh publicly defamed him by calling him Aurangzeb. “You must know that Amar Singh called me Aurangzeb and called netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) Shahajahan. This even came on the front page of Times of India,” he says and tries to continue before Shivpal snatches the mic from him and announces, “This is a lie. The Chief Minister is lying.” The crowd erupts in noise, interrupting Shivpal but he continues saying, “Even I will speak now.”
