The AgustaWestland issue found its echo in the Lok Sabha Wednesday with BJP MP Kirit Somaiya demanding an investigation to find out who received kickbacks in the deal.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Somaiya alleged that two of the accused in the alleged scam — Gautam Khaitan and Guido Haschke — were also “involved” in other companies and, according to a SEBI report, incorporated as directors in real-estate company Emaar-MGF.
Without taking any name, he said a politician is involved in buying and selling properties, which he said was earlier done by his “jijaji” (brother-in-law) in Haryana. The reference triggered angry reaction from the Congress benches. Congress president Sonia Gandhi was present in the House.
