A broke son murdered his mother with the help of his friend Sunday night and allegedly lodged a complaint with police of loot and murder, police said Monday. Anand district police arrested the 21-year-old son and his friend for allegedly killing his mother and robbing her cell phone, jewellery and cash from his home in Bedva village of Khambolaj taluka late on Sunday night. The accused Yash Patel (21) and his friend Parth Makwana (18), were arrested after they confessed to the crime and the articles were recovered from them.

Yash, who was doing a computer course at a private coaching institute, was living with his mother Neeta Patel (49) after his father died last year, while Parth wasn’t doing anything after clearing Class X exams. According to police, Patel and Makwana allegedly killed Neeta by hitting on her head with a heavy object, and looted Rs 3,000 cash along with mobile phone and gold earrings.
Late on Sunday around 1:30 am Yash Patel called up the Khambholaj police station and registered a complaint of loot and murder of his mother. Police inspector MV Garasiya said,”I noticed that the deceased was lying on the floor with injuries on her head. The allegation of loot created doubts in my mind as everything in the house was in order, there were no obvious signs of robbery. I informed senior officers about the situation, they immediately rushed to the spot and we detained Patel for further investigation.”
“During the interrogation Yash confessed that he and Parth allegedly killed Neeta by hitting on her head and robbed the cash, mobile and earrings,” said DSP Komal Vyas. The DSP added that Yash had run into financial trouble having spent all the money from the joint account he shared with his mother. The accused have been booked under Sections 394 and 120B of the IPC, police said.
