A principal was on Saturday shot dead by three assailants who barged into his office in a primary school, following which villagers lynched one of the attackers while the two others escaped in Singhawali Ahir area.
Satya Prakash Sharma (47) was working in his office in Khindauda village when the attackers barged inside and opened fire, killing him on the spot, SP Ravi Shankar Chavi said.
As the attackers were fleeing, the villagers caught hold of one of them and beat him up severely, the SP said, adding that he was rushed to hospital by the police but the doctors declared him dead.
Before dying, the accused disclosed his identity as Rahul alias Bhura and also that of the two others and a hunt has been launched to nab them.
Family enmity is said to be the reason behind the crime, the SP added.
