FOLLOWING TWO grand shows, one in Lucknow addressed by party vice-president Rahul Gandhi and another in Varanasi led by national president Sonia Gandhi, the state Congress now plans to take out another round of yatra, led by Rahul, in different districts.
While the plan is still at an initial stage, sources said the party is mulling at least a two-week-long yatra under the ‘27 Saal, UP Behaal’ campaign. While the first leg of yatra, across 10 districts, was led by AICC UP in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad and CM candidate Sheila Dikshit and was only addressed by Rahul once last month, this time he is expected lead the show.
Sources said several rounds of meetings are expected to take place in New Delhi in this regard in the next few days. Places from where the yatra could begin, includes, among others, Mathura and Vrindavan. “Rahul Gandhi would be seen more actively traveling across UP in the coming days. The plan is at an initial stage. While some have suggested a 20-day tour, it might be difficult for him to spend 20 days in UP with elections still months away,” said a senior leader.
The details of the yatra would be finalised after end of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament, he added.
Sonia had flagged off the first three-day yatra on July 23 from New Delhi. But Dikshit had to leave it in between as she fell ill. At the second yatra on Tuesday, Sonia also had to leave her roadshow in Varanasi after she fell ill and returned to New Delhi.
