The Maharashtra government Friday has ruled out any link between an unidentified boat intercepted by Customs near Mora in Raigad on September 7 with the alert triggered on Thursday after the sighting of suspicious looking men by two schoolchildren in Uran.
“There is no terrorist angle (in the intercepted boat case). It was a simple case of three local boys running away with diesel theft,” informed Additional Chief Secretary (Home) KP Bakshi. On Thursday, the senior bureaucrat had said that the police was verifying if there was a connection between the two developments.
Earlier on September 7, the Marine and Police Wing of the Customs spotted “unfamiliar boat movement” near Mora. A Customs patrol gave chase. It even involved the local police after the boat entered shallow waters. The boat was captured but those on board had escaped. The Home department said on Friday that it had verified the information with Customs officials. Ruling out any connection, the department said that the Customs officials had confirmed that the boat’s owner had claimed the boat later on. Even the three local boys have been accounted for.
