Irked at being told to move his vehicle away from a polling booth during voting for the second phase of panchayat polls, the nephew of an MLA of the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh allegedly abused and threatened a deputy superintendent of police over the phone in Etah district.
Pushpendra Yadav, who is contesting for the post of zilla panchayat member and is the nephew of local Samajwadi Party MLA Rameshwar Yadav, allegedly told Deputy SP R S Chauhan that he was going to capture booths and dared the officer to stop him.
The officer recorded the purported conversation, which has gone viral. “Mai capturing karne ja raha hoon…aa kar rok lo (I am going to capture booths, stop me if you can),” Pushpendra purportedly tells Chauhan in the audio clip.
When Chauhan advised him to “behave like a candidate”, Pushpendra allegedly abused him and issued threats before disconnecting the call.
“The CO has informed me on phone about the call made by Pushpendra and also about the latter threatening and abusing him. He had recorded the conversation and I have heard it. He is giving a written complaint and we will get an FIR lodged in the matter,” SSP, Etah, Surendra Kumar Verma told The Indian Express.
Verma is posted as the circle officer (CO) of Jalesar area in Etah district.
According to the SSP, while polling was in progress, Chauhan asked Pushpendra to move his vehicle away as it was parked close to the zonal magistrate’s vehicle, at the polling booth in Kunwarpur village. Pushpendra, who is contesting from ward No. 20 of Sakeet block, left the place but later called up Chauhan and issued threats, the SSP said.
The SSP confirmed that Pushpendra is the son of local MLA Rameshwar Yadav’s brother Jogendra Singh Yadav. Jogendra is the sitting chairman of the district panchayat.
While the MLA did not respond to phone calls, SP’s state spokesperson Rajendra Choudhary claimed he was not aware about the matter. He, however, said, “No one has the right to abuse or threaten anyone. I am not aware about the incident but will collect details about it”.
Late in the night, an FIR was registered against Pushpendra at Sakeet police station. Station officer, Jai Singh Parihar said the FIR was lodged under relevant sections of the IPC.
