Setting aside political differences, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared a public stage on Saturday to show their unity.

At the inauguration of the Goregaon bridge, named after Janata Dal leader Mrunal Gore, Fadnavis said, “Uddhav Thackeray is a great support and guide. Together, we will change the face of Mumbai and Maharashtra through development work.”

However at the function, the Sena and the BJP tried to display their might with a large number of workers from the respective parties holding up their respective flags.

During his speech, referring to BJP minister Vidhay Thakur’s demand that the bridge should be named as Ram Pool, Thackeray said, “ We want Ram temple at Ayodhya. But the name of Goregaon bridge as Mrunal Gore is very apt.”

Supporting Thackeray, Fadnavis said, “I must appreciate the BMC for considering late Mrunal Gore’s work and naming the bridge after her. This was the right decision.”

Earlier in his speech, Fadnavis also said, “The government is determined to open up the land parcel to create affordable housing. Our government is committed to give houses to mill workers. Today, houses are unaffordable due to constraints of space.” Citing the Singapore model, he said, “If we level the land prices, we can bring down the cost of houses in Mumbai and make it within the reach of ordinary citizens.”
