Two of four held for beating, stripping men in ‘viral’ video

The police have identified them as Haris Shaikh, 24, a Mumbra resident, and Nazeem Shaikh, 23, a Kalwa resident.

OVER 24 HOURS after the Government Railway Police (GRP) registered an FIR in the case of a ‘viral’ video in which four men were seen beating and stripping two youths inside a local train, two of the four accused have been tracked down and arrested.

The police have identified them as Haris Shaikh, 24, a Mumbra resident, and Nazeem Shaikh, 23, a Kalwa resident. “The duo sell fish in the Parel market and were headed there when the incident recorded on the video took place. We are trying to track down the other two accused,” said a police officer.

The case dates back to 2013. It was after the video went viral recently and it was established that the incident took place near Parel railway station that the GRP registered an FIR and started looking for the people in the video.

The police then managed to track down one of the two men, seen being beaten up in the video, to Vikhroli. The man, Wasim Khan, had past cases of robbery registered against him. He claimed that he and his friend were trying to wake up the four people in the train. The four thought the duo was trying to steal their mobile phones, and hence, beat them up.
