Two persons were killed and about half a dozen injured in the second phase of panchayat polls in 60 blocks across 38 districts in Bihar.
Former mukhiya of Singhaul panchayat and RJD leader Anil Kumar was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Saharsa’s Bihra police station area. Kumarhad served three terms as mukhiya and had fielded his wife for the post this time.
In another incident, one person was killed in a clash between two groups at Mohania vilkage in the Simri Bakhtiyarpur area of Saharsa.
The Chandrapura panchayat area of Khagaria witnessed police lathicharge after voters clashed over queuing up at two polling booths. There were reports of bogus voting from Kamaspur village in Asthawa area of Nalanda.
In the second phase of the panchayat election, polling was held at 12,506 booths to elect 124 zila parishad members, 1222 panchayat samiti members, 891 mukhiyas and sarpanchs each and 12,193 panchayat members and panchs.
