People from all walks of life paid rich tributes to braveheart soldier Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad, who died today at the Army’s Research and Referral hospital in New Delhi. Koppad was miraculously found alive on February 8 by a rescue team, six days after an avalanche struck the Siachen glacier.
All through the last three days, India held its breath as Koppad battled for life at the hospital. Earlier today, the Army said in a statement that he had slipped into a deeper state of coma after his pneumonia worsened and his kidneys became non-functional. But he eventually passed away at 11:45 am sinking the nation into grief.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one of the first to express his grief on Twitter.
