The Gujarat High Court on Wednesday asked the civil hospital in Sola to examine the medical condition of a teenage rape victim, who has sought to terminate her five-month pregnancy. This is yet another case of rape-induced pregnancy that has reached the court seeking permission for abortion. The girl’s condition has worsened since she “swallowed acid” after being raped.

The victim reached the High Court along with her parents who are farm labourers from Junagadh district. She was sitting outside the courtroom holding an intravenous drip. The parents said that they don’t want to talk about their daughter’s case, except that they want justice for her. According to the plea, “The petitioner-victim has crumbled physically and mentally on account of rape… she is survived after consuming solid liquid in form of acid and her condition is not sound that she may deliver the child inasmuch as her organs like Esophagus, Liver, Gastric etc are seriously damaged…(sic).”
