A day after a teenager was killed by a group of youths in full public view here on Wednesday, seven people have been arrested.
The murder of Vikas, 19, a Sector 25 resident, sparked a daylong protest against police ‘inaction’. Following the arrest of the seven accused, the family claimed Vikas’s body and performed last rites on Thursday evening.
The post-mortem examination revealed that Vikas died of bleeding due to injuries inflicted with sharp-edged weapons.
The arrested were identified as Vishal, Vikas, Kuldeep aka Ashu and four minors. Vishal, Vikas and Kuldeep worked as waiters in marriage functions.
“The crime was captured on CCTV. We will produce them in court on Friday,” DSP Ramgopal told The Indian Express.
“The accused are part of the liquor mafia in the colony. They used to pass lewd remarks at my daughter, to which Vikas objected several times. He even confronted Kuldeep, the prime accused, on several occasions,” Tejpal, Vikas’s father, said.
