Swaraj Abhiyan on Monday demanded a CBI probe in the murder of a couple and sexual assault of two girls in a village in Mewat district.

“The victim’s family should be compensated and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar should provide adequate security cover to them,” Yogendra Yadav, senior leader and National Working Committee member of Swaraj Abhiyan said.

“The probe in the case should be handed over to the CBI,” he said.

Police today arrested the accused, all in their mid 20s. Rahul, Karamjeet, Sandeep and Amarjeet were putting up in an area located close to the village where the victims live.

“The government should give strict punishment to all the accused involved in this incident. The police knew and identified the accused behind this case. Why was the investigation delayed for four days. The police delayed their arrest just to weaken the case.

“We are suspecting that some anti-social elements and a big organisation tried to spread riots in Mewat,” Yadav said.

Swaraj Abhiyan’s Aman Committee team visited the victim’s family members and assured to help them. They also handed over a memorandum to the district magistrate of Mewat.

“It is a big conspiracy to disturb the peace and harmony of Mewat. Police should again investigate and register an FIR so that the accused cannot be spared from penalty.

“We have investigated that locals had informed the police about some anti-social elements roaming in the village but police did not take any action on their complaint,” said Rajeev Godara, spokesperson of Swaraj Abhiyan Haryana.

On the fateful night, the assailants had first killed the couple with sharp-edged weapons and then injured six other members of the family, all of whom were sleeping in the house, located near the fields in the village.

They had also ransacked the house, an isolated structure located in the middle of farmland, and fled with some valuables including cash.

Among the injured were two girls, aged 18 and 22 years, who were allegedly sexually assaulted by the assailants. They were relatives of the couple, according to police.

After committing the crime, the accused had tied the injured with ropes and escaped from the spot. Some residents living nearby found the injured after which the police was informed.
