Sushma Rathi, wife of Ashok Rathi, who is an accused in over 25 criminal cases, was shot dead near Gurgaon’s Alipur village Friday morning, said police. A case has been filed at the Bhondsi police station under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Ashok Rathi — who has over 25 cases of murder, attempted murder, loot and extortion filed against him — was arrested two years ago and is currently serving a life sentence in Bhondsi jail. Sushma had been married to him for almost 10 years, said police.
Police said the incident took place at 8 am Friday, when Sushma was walking towards her bike after putting her six-year-old daughter, who studies in a private school, on the school bus. “She was walking towards her bike when some men came in a Santro and shot her in the head and chest,” said ACP Hawa Singh, PRO of Gurgaon Police. Sushma was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead, said police. Soon after the incident Friday, a burnt Santro car was found in Dhatir village, almost 20 km away from the spot of the shooting.
Deepak Saharan, DCP (East), said, “A burnt Santro was found… We are trying to determine whether it is the same vehicle.”
He added that Sushma Rathi had lodged a complaint with Gurgaon Police almost three months ago, alleging that her husband had called her up from prison and threatened to kill her. “We will know more after the matter has been investigated,” said the officer.
