Surat police brought Al- Qaeda’s Indian subcontinent operative, Zafar Masud, to Surat from Delhi court on Thursday. Masud was arrested on the charges of obtaining passport through forged documents from Ahmedabad passport office. Surat police had earlier arrested a man and his nephew for their role in helping Masud obtain passport with forged documents.
Masud (38), a resident of Sambhal in UP, was brought to Gujarat from Delhi court on Thursday. The team returned back to Surat on Friday and produced him before district court.

Police said that Masud was arrested by Delhi Special Cell police from his house in Sambhal in December 2015. Police had also recovered four passports from his possession, one of them obtained from Ahmedabad passport office.
Surat crime branch police inspector A M Captain said, “We have got 24- hour custody of Zafar Masud from Delhi court. We will produce him before court for obtaining his police remand on Saturday. We wanted to know his links in Surat details about his activities in Surat city during his stay.”
