Supreme Court tells Shobhaa De to explain her tweets on Marathi films

The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked writer Shobhaa De to respond to a breach of privilege motion notice and explain that her tweets on showing Marathi films on prime time in multiplexes was not a comment on the conduct of the Maharashtra Assembly.

A bench of Justices Dipak Misra and Prafulla C Pant said it hoped that the authorities would appreciate De’s submission and the controversy could be put it to rest. “We hope and trust that the competent authority would objectively appreciate the reply and may accept it,” the bench said. The court will hear the case next in November.
