Authorities imposed several restrictions in Srinagar on Tuesday after separatists called for daylong protests against the execution of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru on this day three years ago. Police earlier detained several separatist leaders to thwart protest plans in the Valley.
On Tuesday, shops and business establishments in the Valleys remained closed and traffic remained off the roads. Rail services between Baramulla and Banihal were also suspended for the day. The administration had imposed restrictions in the old city and additional troops were deployed at several sensitive areas. Police had sealed many roads and lanes in the old city where they feared protests to erupt.
