The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday registered a case against unknown persons in the Siwan journalist Rajdeo Ranjan murder case. The investigative agency’s move comes a day after the Rajan’s wife Aisha moved the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe against RJD strongman Mohammed Shahabuddin and Bihar Health Minister and Lalu Prasad Yadav’s son Tej Pratap. The two RJD leaders were spotted with wanted shooter Mohammed Kaif, who is accused of allegedly murdering Ranjan earlier this year. The CBI, according to news agency ANI, reportedly sent a team to Siwan on Wednesday to begin probe in the murder case.
Reacting to the controversy over Shahabuddin’s release from jail, RJD chief Lalu Prasad, speaking to ANI, said: “BJP has only one agenda: Shahabuddin. They don’t have any other work.”
The Bihar government has decided to appeal in the Supreme Court against Patna High Court’s decision to release Shahabuddin on bail, after pressure from the opposition BJP. Shahabuddin’s comments upon his release stoked the controversy further, when he said that Nitish Kumar is “chief minister of circumstances”.
When asked whether Shahabuddin’s release would effect the Grand Alliance, Lalu added, “All disputes have been put to bed. Don’t rake up past issues. This won’t have any effect on the Grand Alliance.”
On Tuesday, Ranjan’s wife Asha demanded action against the culprits responsible for the murder of her husband. Saying that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar must correct his mistake, Asha said that he must initiate legal proceedings against the murder accused. Wanted shooter Kaif was spotted with Tej Pratap and Shahabuddin, who was recently released on bail in the murder case.
“The pictures show that Shahabuddin is related to Kaif and some other criminals. He was released from jail on September 10 and today is September 13,” said Asha.
“How is it that the police did not know where the culprits were? Strict action should be taken against them. Nitish Kumar did not take cognizance of the matter, that is why I had to go to Delhi. He should correct his mistake and he should make proceedings against these culprits. CBI should take up the murder probe, until then the truth will not come out,” she said.
