A week after he announced that he has plans to start a gaushala with cows reared at his official bungalow, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan demonstrated his love for the animal on Sunday by posing with a cow and a calf.
By cuddling the cow the way he did on Sunday, Chouhan came quite close to Union minister Uma Bharati, who as former CM of Madhya Pradesh and even before that, wore her love for the “gaumata” on her sleeve. Even when she was out of the BJP, it was not uncommon to see her chasing the cow with a roti.
While felicitating farmers on the state winning a central award for food grain production, Chouhan on January 31 said he had started with two cows and the number rose to 25. He said he wanted the number to rise to 50 before he could start a gaushala.
On Sunday, the chief minister did not just stop at posing with the cow. He assured the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), an affiliate of the RSS, that he would do his bit to increase the price of cow milk.
He asked the BKS to form a committee and suggest ways to make better use of cow milk, cow urine and cow dung. He gave that assurance while attending a function of the BKS at its office in Bhopal.
BKS state chief Rambharos Basotiya told him that yoga guru Ramdev was buying cow urine for Rs 5 a litre, and asked if the state government could do the same.
