Mekhail Bora and Rahul Mukerjea — Indrani Mukherjea’s son and step-son, respectively — have told the CBI they even approached an Army officer to intercede on their behalf and urge the Mumbai Police to register a complaint about Sheena Bora’s disappearance.
The Mumbai Police had claimed they had stumbled upon the case while interrogating Indrani Mukerjea’s driver Shyam Rai in an unrelated case.
Sources in the CBI told The Indian Express that Mekhail’s statement to interrogators clearly mentioned that he and Rahul had together approached Sheena’s friend, who is married to an Army officer, to seek his help as their repeated complaints to the police were not being taken seriously, sources added.

Indrani, wife of former television honcho Peter Mukerjea, was arrested on August 25 by the Khar police for allegedly murdering her daughter Sheena Bora in April, 2012. Later, her driver Shyam Rai and former husband Sanjeev Khanna were arrested
According to sources, Rahul told the CBI he never believed Indrani’s story about Sheena going abroad.
“That night (when Indrani called Sheena to meet her), Rahul received a text message from Sheena’s phone stating she would stay the night at Indrani’s place and return the following morning. Sheena and Rahul, who were engaged in November 2011, were living at a flat in Marol. In the morning, when Sheena did not return, Rahul called Indrani, who told him Rai had dropped her off after dinner,” said the source. Rahul added he later received an SMS from Sheena stating she had found a new boyfriend and that he should not get in touch with her. “He (Rahul) says there was no reason for Sheena to dump him abruptly,” the source said.
Rahul then tried lodging a complaint at the Khar, Bandra, Worli and MIDC police stations, but was turned away. “Two officials from Worli police station visited Peter Mukerjea’s Worli house. A staff told them that Sheena had not visited on April 24. The policemen then contacted Indrani who told them that Sheena was in Guwahati. The police did not purse the complaint,” added the source.
Rahul then reportedly approached three other police stations on April 27, 2012. But when police checked with Indrani, they were told Sheena was in the US.
“Rahul and Mekhail then got in touch with Sheena’s friend, who discussed the matter with her husband, who then spoke to a senior officer in the Mumbai Police. The senior officer asked one of his trusted men to keep a watch on Shyam Rai and Indrani…Indrani was out of the country for most of the time between 2013 and 2014. She returned to Mumbai in August, 2015. It was on her return that Rai was arrested under the Arms Act,” the source said.
Rahul told The Indian Express: “It is a double whammy for me as the accused is my step-mother.” Last week, the CBI also recorded Mekhail’s statement. Confirming that he and Rahul tried unsuccessfully to lodge a complaint, Mekhail said, “Nobody paid attention to us. After a while, I gave up.”
