Days after a Shiv Sena leader assaulted a woman traffic constable in Thane, an office-bearer of the party’s youth wing Yuva Sena was caught on CCTV camera assaulting a shop assistant, reportedly for not providing 100 free vada pavs for a sports event. Following reports of the incident, Sena expelled the leader, sources said. Mahadik was nabbed Monday and produced in court. He was granted bail, said a police officer.

Police said Mahadik had reportedly sent a representative to the shop for the vada pavs. Chetan said the store did not have sufficient stock. Mahadik reportedly telephoned Chetan the next day and abused him. “Chetan asked him to speak to the store owner. Mahadik then went to the store and assaulted Chetan with a bamboo stick,” said an officer at Vile Parle police station.
