Schools shut in south-east Bengaluru after leopard scare

A rescue team was rushed to the spot in Varthur area after forest officials learnt about the cats. But till Wednesday noon there was no confirmation about the leopards.

Vibgyor High and other private schools in Varthur area of south-east Bengaluru were shut on Wednesday over fear of leopards after locals claimed to have spotted two big cats on Tuesday evening.

The Block Education Officer (BEO) Ramesh announced a holiday on Wednesday after he had heard the news of leopards in the locality.

The schools located in Varthur, Kundalahalli and Marathahalli were also shut.

Last week on Sunday, a leopard strayed into Vibgyor High school and had attacked people including wildlife expert Sanjay Gubbi before it was caught by the forest department officials.

The forest department and police officials have camped in the alerted area.

Nayaz Khan, a local resident said that the leopard had been spotted at Nallurahalli, a place 2 km away from Vibgyor school on Tuesday.
