Almost 50 per cent of shops remained closed in Coimbatore Saturday, two days after the murder of Hindu Munnani leader C Sasikumar, 36, and the violence that followed the incident in the city. Over 3,000 security personnel have been deployed to prevent violence, according to police officials.

No violent incidents were reported and the situation was peaceful on Saturday, said a senior officer in charge of security measures in the city. Police sources said they are yet to identify the gang that killed Sasikumar, spokesperson of Hindu Munnani, who was hacked to death by unidentified people near Coimbatore Thursday.
