A 20-year-old Dalit student in Rohtak was allegedly gangraped this week by three men who had earlier raped her in 2013.

The family alleged that the woman was gangraped again because they did not reach a compromise despite repeated threats from the accused, who had been jailed previously. They also said that the men gangraped her to ‘punish’ her for not accepting an out-of-court settlement.

The victim was gangraped by five men in Bhiwani three years ago. The family had filed an FIR and two of the five accused were arrested. Later, they were released on bail.

In order to escape the shaming and ostracisation, the family then shifted to Rohtak where the college student was allegedly drugged and raped on Wednesday, after being picked up from her college gate.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the victim told police that she was kidnapped by the same accused on July 13 and raped in their car. She was later dumped near the bushes in Sukhpura Chowk where passersby spotted her and took her to a hospital.

The five accused have been identified, according to Zee News, as Mausam Kumar, Aakash,  Anil alias Bittu, Raju alias Jagmohan and Sandeep Singh. The accused are in their late 20s, and at least three of them belong to ‘upper-caste’. The police are yet to make any arrests.

Several Dalit organisations held demonstrations on Sunday in front of Rohtak MLA, Manish Grove’s residence, in protest against the gangrape.
